Alberti Lim Wins Important IPR Decisions for Client Polaris PowerLED, Obtaining Denial of Three Western Digital and Sandisk IPRs

July 18, 2025

Alberti Lim notched another PTAB clean sweep victory – this time for client Polaris PowerLED Technologies, LLC (“Polaris”), winning denial of institution of all three inter partes review petitions (“IPRs”) filed by Western Digital Technologies, Inc. and Sandisk Technologies Inc.

Western Digital and Sandisk challenged the validity of Polaris’ three foundational patents, but the Patent Office rejected these petitions and denied institution. The IPRs are captioned in the Patent Office PTAB as Sandisk Technologies Inc. and Western Digital Technologies, Inc., IPR 2025-00515, IPR2025-00516, and IPR2025-00517.

Polaris’ patented inventions are directed to flash memory used in computing, gaming, data storage, and e-commerce. The inventions are innovative techniques for improving nonvolatile memory controllers, including the processing of memory commands and the generation of a completion status for such commands.

To secure the IPR victories for Polaris , Alberti Lim co-counseled in the PTAB with attorneys from Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, PLLC, with whom they have a strong relationship.  Opposing counsel representing Western Digital and Sandisk in the district court case and related IPRs is the Haynes & Boone LLP firm.
