Alberti Lim Secures Important Appeals Win for The University of Michigan in Patent Infringement Case

April 25, 2023

Alberti Lim secured an important and strategic appeals win yesterday for its client The University of Michigan (U of M) in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The federal appeals court unanimously upheld the validity of all claims of The University of Michigan’s valuable and foundational white light laser microscope technology patent, as reported in the press, including in an article published in Law360.

The case is The University of Michigan v. Leica Microsystems.  Leica filed this appeal in the Federal Circuit after Alberti Lim successfully defended the university in an inter partes review (“IPR”) that Leica filed challenging the validity of the university’s patent.  The university’s patent infringement case, University of Michigan v. Leica Microsystems, will now resume in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to address Leica’s infringement of the university’s valuable patented technology.
