Alberti Lim obtained a consecutive trio of significant IPR wins for client and patent owner Adaptive Spectrum and Signal Alignment, Inc. (“ASSIA”) with the PTAB denying institution of three inter partes review petitions filed by Charter Communications challenging the validity of ASSIA’s patents. The IPRs are PTAB IPR2024-01379, IPR2025-00013, and IPR2025-00012, Charter Communications, Inc. v. Adaptive Spectrum and Signal Alignment, Inc.

ASSIA’s patents are directed to innovative techniques for improving digital communications systems performance. ASSIA, led by inventor, Dr. John M. Cioffi, is known as a pioneer in innovation developing core technologies for Internet access and optimization. Dr. Cioffi is a Professor Emeritus at Stanford University and received, among many other accolades, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, awarded by the President of the United States “for advancements that helped bring high-speed Internet to the world.”

“ASSIA is in the process of proving that Charter infringes these three, plus two more, of ASSIA’s patents in the U.S. District Court in Marshall, Texas. We are expecting a decision in Charter’s remaining two IPRs in the coming weeks as we head towards trial in the district court this fall,” explained Nicole Glauser, a Alberti Lim partner, who also heads the firm’s Austin office.
